Gainesville Greenhouse

In August of 2023 we drove over to Gainesville to get away for the weekend and check out a property that I had found. We were in touch directly with the owner, who grew up in the 1975 home. He showed us around—it was a stunningly beautiful house in a dramatic wooded setting in a tragic state of deterioration. Our initial thought was “no way.” Our daughter was only one, and we didn’t need a project of this scale an hour and a half from home.

But we couldn’t get it out of our minds and we could not unsee what it could be. We toured it again the next day and got it under contract that evening. We spent the next year and a half thoroughly restoring the house to its former glory. It is our most extensive (and expensive) residential remodel to date).

Project Date: August 2023-December 2024
Location: Gainesville, FL

Scope:

  • Property Procurement

  • Interior Arch. and Design

  • Project Management

The ceiling in the main living area had suffered water intrusion for years and was caving in. We removed the entire ceiling in the process of re-roofing.

The wood was replaced with a similar 1.5” tongue and groove. The assembly included a layer of insulation on the exterior, and a standing seam metal roof. All of the new wood was painstaking stained to match the existing aged wood tone.

The wood and glass atrium required almost total reconstruction. We framed an entirely new skeleton on the exterior for structural support and replaced a lot of the glass to ensure everything was tempered.
